Foundation Reaches New Fundraising Goal at 24th Annual Gala

More than 420 business leaders, community members, and healthcare professionals came together on April 26, 2014 to celebrate Alameda Health System Foundation’s 24th Annual Gala. The event was an unprecedented success, raising over $375,000 to support Alameda Health System’s (AHS) mission of Caring, Healing, Teaching, Serving All.

Hosted by local celebrity and KTVU news anchor, Dave Clark, guests gathered to celebrate “A New Day, A New Generation.” Presented by Traditions Behavioral Health, the event highlighted Alameda Health System’s Maternal Child Health Department. Highland Hospital’s world-class medical providers deliver over 1,000 babies each year and offer health and wellness programs that address the needs of Alameda County’s most vulnerable population.

As seen in the success story of 13-year-old Axel Garcia, the evening’s featured patient and a dedicated participant in the Maternal Child Health Department’s Bite-to-Balance Program, Alameda Health System has a lasting and positive impact on the quality of life of our youth. Moved by Axel’s inspirational success story of fighting childhood obesity, the crowd responded and together donated over $20,000 for the Maternal Child Health Department. Their generosity will help expand current community programs and ensure a healthy start to our youngest patients.

Three Alameda Health System employees were recognized for their efforts in providing excellent patient care. They are:

  • Taft Bhuket, MD – Outstanding Physician of the Year, sponsored by Alameda Health System Medical Staff
  • Trinnea Rufus, RN – Outstanding Behavioral Health Caregiver of the Year, sponsored by Traditions Behavioral Health
  • Karen Young, RN – Outstanding Caregiver of the Year, sponsored by OakCare Medical Group

After the program, the venue transformed for the Annual Gala’s first-ever After Party, where additional guests could join the evening’s festivities. Sheria Johnson, an AHS employee who was invited for a private audition for The Voice, kicked off the After Party with a spectacular vocal performance. Accompanied by the event’s band, Flashback, the performance set the tone for a lively evening filled with dancing and mingling in an elegant lounge atmosphere.

The Foundation would like to thank everyone who attended the event, made a contribution, and celebrated the mission of Alameda Health System – it is the best yet!
